Il Papiro celebrates fifty years of passion for the art of paper marbling and is proud to mark this important milestone together with those around the world who continue to be captivated by the magic of its creations.
The story of Il Papiro began as a challenge: to revive and pass on artisanal knowledge by reinterpreting it, bringing more and more people closer to the authentic beauty of handmade in Italy. It all began in Florence, where craftsmanship is still a living art, with the meeting of two friends: Francesco Giannini, heir to a family of bookbinders and a creative spirit, and Gianni Parenti, who had the ability to turn every connection into a meaningful bond. United by their love for their city and its traditions, they set out to rediscover the ancient techniques of paper decoration, bringing back to light a precious craft, preserved for centuries in the workshops of the city. On Christmas Eve in 1976, that dream took shape with the opening of the first shop at Via Cavour 55/r, Florence. It marked the beginning of a journey destined to endure.
Over the years, Il Papiro has grown and evolved, embracing change without ever losing its essence: attention to detail and the desire to create objects meant to last over time. Throughout the years, Il Papiro has been featured in leading fashion and lifestyle magazines, chosen by notable personalities and public figures, but above all experienced every day by individuals, each with their own story.
Our products have been part of major projects as well as simple, heartfelt gestures: a gift received from a loved one, given on a special occasion. Over time, we have remained true to who we have always been, artisans in both hands and heart, bringing the same care and attention to every story we encounter, whether grand or intimate.
To celebrate this anniversary, Il Papiro introduces a dedicated line of products, conceived as a tangible expression of these fifty years. A new logo and a Peacock marbled paper design, in an original color palette influenced by gold, reflect a spirit of ongoing research and the desire to honor this important occasion. From this vision comes a limited-edition notebook: 200 pieces, handcrafted by our artisans and individually numbered. Each one different, each one unique. Additionally, a canvas tote bag will also be available, enriched with a hand-painted watercolor by our artisans, depicting the exterior of one of our stores and the life that, for fifty years, has unfolded in front of its windows.
